The Director General of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), Mr. Bemanya Twebaze, and his delegation have extended their high-level mission in Liberia with an engagement at the National Legislature. The meeting brought together the House of Representatives Committees on Foreign Affairs and on Commerce and Trade, chaired by Hon. Nekher E. Gaye.

The discussion centered on strengthening Liberia’s intellectual property (IP) framework and deepening collaboration between the Government of Liberia and ARIPO. Both Committees expressed their commitment to working closely with the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO) to fast-track the review and ratification of key regional instruments, including the Kampala Protocol and the Arusha Protocol.

These instruments aim to foster innovation, protect creators’ rights, and enhance trade and economic growth through a modernized IP system.

In his remarks, Mr. Twebaze commended the Liberian Legislature for its leadership and vision toward building a strong IP regime that supports national development. He reaffirmed ARIPO’s continued commitment to providing technical assistance, policy guidance, and capacity-building support to strengthen Liberia’s participation in the regional IP ecosystem.

As a symbol of goodwill and partnership, the ARIPO delegation presented a special gift to the Committees, reflecting the organization’s appreciation and its dedication to continued cooperation with the Government and people of Liberia.

The engagement forms part of ARIPO’s broader mission to promote innovation and sustainable growth across its member states.
